The students at the University of Adelaide’s architecture school are in for a rude awakening.
In this exclusive interview with the ABC, a young architect from Australia’s architectural elite talks about his new school’s new “bio-engineering” curriculum, his vision for a world without air conditioning and why he thinks it’s important to live in a “bauhaus” architecture.
Architectural Lighting: Do you think the Bauhus are a bubble or is this new curriculum a good idea?
What is bio-engineering?
Bio-engineering is the process of designing and constructing structures that are powered by artificial intelligence.
It involves using artificial intelligence to predict the performance of an environment and then controlling the environment in such a way that it is maximally useful and sustainable.
Bauhaus architects have been experimenting with bio-engineered buildings for decades, including the building of the Grand Bau Palace, the Opera House, the Museum of Fine Arts and the National Gallery of Australia.
What is your school teaching you?
What’s your favourite topic in architecture?
The curriculum has been designed to prepare students for the work environment of the future, with the goal of building a diverse and sustainable architecture that is in tune with global social and economic change.
The Bauhouse building was built in 1891 and stands as a monument to the first wave of modern architects.
Are you worried about a bubble in architecture that you see developing in the future?
Yes, I think the current architecture is pretty well-developed.
Do you think this is a bubble, or does this new program help you to see things differently?
We have a good education system.
We’ve got a good school system, and I’m confident that with the right support and guidance, we will be able to build a sustainable and exciting future for the future of architecture.
Are you planning to leave the school in the next few years?
Yes and no.
I think there are a number of things that I can do that will make a difference to my future, so I will consider it.

What do you think is the future in architecture and the Baushaus school?
It is a great place to learn.
We are really proud of what we have achieved, and we will work very hard to keep up with the trends and innovation.
How do you feel about your new bio-education program?
We’re in the process right now.
You’ll learn how to design buildings that are eco-friendly, are more resilient to climate change, and create a better environment for all the students.
